One of the best views if we are in the area is from the Taoro lookout, a unique place from which to contemplate the Orotava Valley. This is a place to spend some time to enjoy this distinctive landscape.

Perhaps we should allow ourselves the license to say that if Alexander Von Humboldt had climbed a little further along the paths where he reached the El Pino ravine he would have had even better views of Orotava Valley.

And it is that from this point several specific parts of the geography of the Valley of «Arautaba» can be sighted. Though here walked the Guanches, who lived under the reign of Mencey Bencomo. Here was the tomb of the last Mencey of Taoro and Tacoronte, Mencey Bentor, who witnessed the rise of colonial society and saw many ships set sail from the harbour Puerto de la Cruz.

If we let our vision sweep over to the slope right next to the viewpoint, we have the Nature Reserve of La Resbala. A natural resource that stands out with numerous rock habitat communities, threatened and protected species of great scientific value and that stretches from the slopes of La Florida to the ridge of Pedro Gil at about 1,600 meters above sea level. If we continue through the La Orotava Valley we can see the different districts that compose it, and also the natural diversity that it has together with the Protected Landscape of El Rincón, and the geological variety made up of the different volcanoes, which erupted in the valley until reaching the Massif de Tigaiga and Punta de El Guindaste in Los Realejos, which separates the Orotava Valley from the Icod Massif.

To get to this area we have to go up the Nueva Corujera road to the district of Tamaide. Once there, we go down to the Plaza de Tamaide to park our vehicle and walk along a small alley to Calle Taoro, where we have to continue about 150 meters until we reach the lookout. In the event that we want to arrive by car, we can do so by taking the El Pinito main road (TF-21), and then, just before arriving at KM-1, where the Humboldt lookout lies, we take Calle Taoro.

The Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (TITSA) buses that arrive here are number 380 (La Corujera – La Orotava – Los Realejos – Tigaiga) and number 101 (La Orotava – San Cristóbal de La Laguna) by the Carretera de El Pinito. In the case of line number 380, we must use stops 4826 (direction La Corujera) and 4875 (direction town center). On line 101 we must use stops 4013 (towards Santa Úrsula) and 4220 (towards La Orotava) from where we can go up Calle Taoro.
