“Cumbres del Sur” and “Cumbres del Norte” are two areas that have been converted into viewpoints from which the highlands of Tenerife can be seen, both the ones of the Orotava Valley and the ones of the Valley of Güímar, as well as the “Corona Forestal” natural park, which is one of the large forest masses, the green lung of the island.

At the Chimague or “Cumbres del Sur” lookout you will be able to see a large part of the Anaga Rural Park and the Island of Gran Canaria, weather permitting; if not, you can always appreciate the sea of clouds over the Güímar Valley, the peaks of Arafo and the southern part of Tenerife. In addition, this viewpoint is surrounded by a dense tree mass, which was planted in the middle of the 20th century in order to restore the vegetation in the area.

At approximately 100 meters, we find the Chipeque lookout from which you can observe the territory of our municipality below it and then expand the view from Punta del Hidalgo to Buenavista across a spectacular panoramic view of the Orotava Valley; Teide is a magnificent backdrop for this amazing scenery. Likewise, when the weather allows it, you can sight the island of La Palma, while if the weather conditions are not favourable, we can only see the spectacular sea of clouds instead. On the other hand, standing on the ridge of “Pedro Gil” or “La Esperanza” allows you to contemplate the protected area of Las Lagunetas.

To get to these viewpoints you must go up the La Esperanza road (TF-24) until you reach KM-26 approximately, where there are signposts that identify both viewpoints. The two areas have parking for cars and space reserved for tourist buses. The company that runs the island’s bus lines, Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (TITSA), does not have its own line here, so access is only possible by car.

The viewpoints have different explanatory boards with extensive information panels for visitors. The viewpoints belong to the Red Insular de Miradores (RIM) – Insular Network of Viewpoints of the Cabildo de Tenerife. They also have selective garbage collection areas adapted to this area of the island, also courtesy of the RIM of the Cabildo.
