Our Favorite Son, Don Domingo Rodríguez del Rosario, said in one of his verses dedicated to this area:

“Tamaide Don Juan Tenorio, flourishing your beauty, they want you to be the groom of the noble and loyal city”

Originally, Tamaide was a water spring that emerged in this place, and it is quite possible that the Guanches of King Bencomo lived here. Tamaide is a place where the spirit of Canariety is strongly felt, being a land of Guanches protected by the first Canary saint.

Festivities in honour of the Holy Brother Pedro of Tamaide

The Tamaide festivities began in honour of the Holy Cross de Tamaide, which was where the hermitage of the Holy Brother Pedro stands today. In 1987, after building the hermitage and purchasing the statue of Holy Brother Pedro, the festivities began to be celebrated in his honour on the weekend closest to the feast of Holy Brother Pedro (April 24th and 25th). The Holy Tree Esquisúchil

The holy tree of Brother Pedro, or esquisúchil is decorative species typically found in Guatemala which the Holy Brother Pedro picked in the gardens of churches and convents of Guatemala, most notably from the Church of the Calvary of Antigua Guatemala. It was planted in the district of Tamaide in July of 2019 after several years waiting for the specimen which was located in the Botanical Garden and which had arrived from Lomo de Mena botanical gardens (in Güímar), where several of these were planted but which died due to the unfavourable climate.

Hermitage of the Holy Brother Pedro of San José Betancur

It is located on one of the Tamaide hills at the western end of the municipality. It was built with a modern infrastructure and a spacious square in 1987. At he time the saint to whom the hermitage would be dedicated was still beatus.

The statue of the Holy Brother Pedro of San José Betancur is an image of modern manufacture, brought from the oratory of the House of the Brothers of the Order of Bethlehem of San Cristóbal de La Laguna after a problem with the carving, which they originally posed for their church. Holy mass is dedicated to it every Saturday of the year.
