La Cuesta, later nicknamed La Villa due to the jurisdictional conflicts with the town (Villa) of La Orotava, is a place of ancestors, but also of modernity. It is a place that has seen the passage of the Guanches, and also the transit of numerous travellers, on the way to Santa Cruz, La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Icod de Los Vinos or Buenavista del Norte.

The locals have their own way of life, say they go to «La Villa» and that El Pinito is its border with the famous Orotava.

It is the window of the Orotava Valley, with magnificent panoramic views of Taoro.

The Outlook of Cuesta de la Villa

Cuesta de la Villa has been inhabited since the times of the Guanches. There the Guanches of King Bencomo settled from the highlands to the coast, nearby the “Cave of the King” or “Cave of Bencomo”.

The El Pinito road runs through here, which was an improvement in communications linking the municipality with La Orotava and Buenavista del Norte. The connection with the Villa de La Orotava that was not sufficient to put aside the jurisdictional discord.
